Not sure how to do this one.

Factor 7x^2(x+1) -x(x+1) +6(x+1)

Tried simplifying and then factoring by grouping but that doesn't work out (If I did it correctly)

[h=2]Factor 7x^2(x+1) -x(x+1) +6(x+1)[/h]

Factor out (x+1) first - what do you get?

Factor 7x^2(x+1) -x(x+1) +6(x+1)
after division by (x + 1):
7x^2 - x + 6

That +6 should DEFINITELY be -6; typo?

I'm not sure. 7x^2(x+1) -x(x+1) +6(x+1) is how it is written in the textbook.

Because 7x^2 - x - 6 = (7x + 6)(x - 1)

7x^2 - x + 6 has negative discriminant;
unless that's on purpose by a mean teacher!

It could also be 7x^2 - 13x + 6 = (7x - 6)(x - 1)

But nobody said that all the factors are linear functions of 'x'.
