but I do not know why because this was a multiple choice questions and I guessed at the answer and now I am trying to figure it out so I will know for the upcoming stuff.

Go back and read the problem again! I guarantee it was NOT "f(x)= x^2- 3x+ 2, what is f(x)?"! That would be as bad as "Who is buried in Grant's tomb?"!
I strongly suspect that the problem said "f(x)= x^2- 3x+ 2, what is f(x+h)?" Okay, if f(x)= x^2- 3x+ 2 then f(a)= a^2- 3a+ 2, f(b)= b^2- 3b+ 2, etc. That is, whatever is in the parentheses replaces x in the formula defining f. In particular, f(x+ h)= (x+ h)^2- 3(x+ h)+ 2. So, what is (x+h)^2? What is 3(x+ h)?
