This is from my homework.....

find the extrema of......

f(x)=
-x--3
------
x+4

f(x)= 2x( x+1) ^ (1/2)

f(x)= xe^-x

To find extreme points, first find the critical points. To find the critical points, differentiate, set the derivative equal to zero, and solve.

So your first step will be differentiating. Then set the result equal to zero and solve.

What method are you supposed to use to check the critical numbers for whether they mark extrema? (There is more than one way....)

When you reply, please show how far you have gotten. Thank you.
