thank-you, yes this is a valuable service for me, I will do all those things you ask. :D

Question, when asked to Simplify

( -2 )integer with an exponent of 4 a positive 16. Then I have the same problem enclosed in parenthesis -2 with an exponent of 4 equals a negative 16. Then I have a -4 integer and a -2 exponent with an answer of -1/16. (-4) with a negative 2 exponent with and answer of a positive 1/16! Seems easy enough...
I'm not sure what decided the signs to be negative and positive then lastly fraction form. I could not find an explanation in my book or under your lessons, could you help?

Thank-you for your time. No rush...working ahead in my homework.

(-2)[sup:24fpdgk8]4[/sup:24fpdgk8]
The even power is on the two and on the "minus" sign. The product of an even number of minusses is a "plus".

The even power is only on the two. The "minus" sign is unaffected, and remains on the final value.

(-2)[sup:3p6z3ef7]4[/sup:3p6z3ef7] = (-2) * (-2) * (-2) * (-2) = (4) * (-2) * (-2) = (-8) * (-2) = 16

-(2)[sup:3p6z3ef7]4[/sup:3p6z3ef7] = -(2 * 2 * 2 * 2) = -16

-(4)[sup:3p6z3ef7]-2[/sup:3p6z3ef7] = - 1/(4)[sup:3p6z3ef7]2[/sup:3p6z3ef7] = -1/16

(-4)[sup:3p6z3ef7]-2[/sup:3p6z3ef7] = 1/(-4)[sup:3p6z3ef7]2[/sup:3p6z3ef7] = 1/[(-4) * (-4)] = 1/16

Is it anymore clear.....if not please ask questions
