I have an expression that I wish to evaluate using the exponential function. I think I have got this right but just want to check. x = -3.68

0.2e-3x/7

0.2e - 3 x -3.68/7

0.2e - -11.04/7

0.2e 1.5771

1.5771e x 0.2

= 0.9682

I have just got a little confused with the minus sign before the 3x/7 sum. It doesn't show it very well above what I mean, i'm sure there is a way to show it correctly but I don't know how.

Thanks

What does the subscript 7 mean? Oh! Reading further you have "-3x/7" so you mean 0.2e-3x/7.

0.2e - 3 x -3.68/7
I assume you simply mean you are replacing x by -3.68 but that a very strange way to write it! Just putting the entire exponent in a single set of tags is
better than trying to get fancy!

0.2e - -11.04/7

0.2e 1.5771

Okay, -3 times -3.68 is 11.04 and dividing by 7, 1.577

/SUP]1.5771e x 0.2

= 0.9682
But now you have lost me completely! How did the 1.577 exponent get out in front apparently multiplying e?
\(\displaystyle e^1.5571}= 4.841 and multiplying by 0.2, 0.9682.

What you give for x itself, -3.68, is itself negative so when you multiply by -3/7 the result is a positive number.\)

Thanks very much. Yeah I probably should have just wrote it as you did instead of trying to show how it is wrote on paper.

Yes x is -3.68

1.5771e x 0.2 is just how I put it into the calculator. How should I write this?

So apart from how I am writing this out, the answer is correct?
