Please I need help. I keep doing this problem and I keep on getting the wrong answer!

The question is as follows:
Find an equation of the tangent line to the curve at the given point:
y= x-1/x-2, (3,2)

I'll appreciate it.

Thanx

Not being a homework service, we do ask that you show us something that you have done for yourself.
What have you tried?
What don't you understand?

As posted, your function is as follows:

. . . . .\(\displaystyle y\, =\, x\, -\, \frac{1}{x}\, -\, 2\)

Was this what you meant? :?:

Please reply with confirmation or correction. When you reply, please include a clear listing of everything you have tried so far. Thank you! :D

no it is supposed to be written as y= x-1 OVER x-2 with (3,2).

what i did was as the lim approaches zero a-1/a-2= 3+h-1/3+h-2 - 2/h

i solved by making the denominators equal each other which then cancel out 3+h-2

as the lim approaches zero 3+h-1-(2)(3+h-2)/3+h-2/h which will give me as the lim h approaches zero h/h which equals zero! but it should not equal zero. i really have a hard time showing all the steps because of the limited ability to show mathematical expressions.

i hope this helped

i used the equation as the lim as h approaches zero f(a+h) - f(a)/h

So, using the formatting you learned from the articles in the "Read Before Posting" thread, you meant "y = (x - 1)/(x - 2)"...?

The limit of what? As which approaches zero? What is the relationship, if any, between "a", "h", and "x"? Are you supposed to be using one of the "limit" definitions of the derivative, instead of just taking the derivative?

When you reply, please include clarification of what you have done, using the formatting explained in the article you read. Thank you! :D
