9f=64-f
What is the proper way to do this? The answer " add f: f to both sides doesn't help
Could I get a specific work through?

Please do not post your rejoinders by editing them into your original post. Instead, post a new reply each time you want to contribute more to the thread.

Are you trying to get help solving for the number f that makes this equation true?

If so, the first step is to add the number f to the expression on each side of the equation.

In other words, you need to simplify each side of this equation:

9f + f = 64 -f + f

If you do not understand how to simplify these types of expressions, then you may need to speak with your instructor because you've missed some stuff in class.

There's nothing complicated to understand.

If you have nine identical things and you add one more just like the rest, you've now got ten of them.

In the expression 9f + f, you've got nine f's and you're adding one more f, so add them. Write down the total number of f's on the left-hand side of your next new equation. This concept is known as "adding like terms".

On the right-hand side, simplify the expression 64 + f - f.

See how? You're subtracting the number f from itself. What do you always get when you subtract a number from itself?

If you would like more help, please show us what you've got thus far.

If my post also does not help you to finish the first step, then you really need to chat up your teacher. Cheers :cool:

Why does it not help? Because you don't know how to add or just because you refuse to do it?

if your solving for f just move the -f to one side so it should be added like this: 9f+f=64 then add them so it looks like this 10f=64 then to get f by its self divide by 10 so it looks like this f=64/10 so f=6.4

There is a good resource for free that will help you with these problems check it out http://mymathmanual.com/
