2 Problems I am stuck on that I have for HW due tomorrow morning.. any help or example problems would help out .... thanks!

1. Solve : X2(sqaured) + 14x + 38 = 0

2. Solve the equation by making the appropriate substituion
x - 2048 - 32 square root x = 0

a. 4096
b. 3072
c. 8192
d. 2048

Your best bet for #1 is to use the quadratic formula. a=1, b=14, c=38. \(\displaystyle x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\)
For #2, let \(\displaystyle \sqrt{x}=u\). That makes x=u[sup:1vyo4uod]2[/sup:1vyo4uod].

Post this way:
1. X^2 + 14x + 38 = 0
2. x - 2048 - 32 sqrt(x) = 0

On #1: look up the quadratic formula
On #2: replace x by the 4 given values, until you get one that makes left side = 0
