write an equation for a line that passes through the point at (4,4) and is perpendicular to the line whose equation is 2x + y = 7. find the point slope first? please help. i am an adult trying to earn my high school diploma.

Find the slope of the line 2x+y=7. The slope of the line that is parallel to a given line is the negative reciprocal of the slope of the given line. For instance, if the slope of line 1 is 7, the slope of all lines perpendicular to line 1 is -1/7. If the slope of line 2 is -3/4, the slope of any line perpendicular to line 2 is 4/3.

Once you have the slope of the desired line, use that fact and the point through which it passes in the point-slope formula y-y[sub:2655qhsk]1[/sub:2655qhsk] = m(x-x[sub:2655qhsk]1[/sub:2655qhsk]).
