photo dimensions 3.5 by 5 inches Problem--suppose card image is enlarges so ratio of original to enlargement is 3:4. The the bigger print enlarge so ratio of 1st enlargement to second is 2:3. Find dimensions of both enlargements

:( My response-- 1st enlargement = 4.7 by 6.68 (3.5 and 5 divided by 3 then multiplied by 4)
2nd enlargement = 7 by 10 (4.7 and 6.68 divided by 2 then multiplied by 3)
Am I anywhere in the ballpark on this one????? :?:

Your first ratio was 3:4, so:

. . . . .new/old: 3.5/w = 3/4, or (7/2)/w = 3/4

Solving for an exact value, and thus avoiding round-off error, we get:

. . . . .w = (7/2)(4/3) = 14/3

Follow the same process to get a corrected value for the length L.

The second ratio, which is with respect to the first enlargment, is 2:3, so:

. . . . .new/old: (14/3)/w = 2/3

Solving for an exact value, we get:

. . . . .w = (14/3)(3/2) = 7

Hope that helps! :D
