I really want the answer to be JUDGE, but it's not coming together for me.

Also, I can't stop thinking about the actor, Mr. Law. (There's a connection with his first name and the name Petrol, in the luggage industry, but it's too weak.

I've run out of ideas, for five letters.

That's what I was wondering.
It sounded like you wanted to put AU inside GAS, but that doesn't give GAUSS. Putting US inside GAS does.
