For review, I need help dividing x's.

for example:

x^2 - 9
x+3

and

2x^2 + 5x- 3
2x -1

I do not know where to start. thanks

Do you mean that you need to simplify the posted expressions, or are you supposed to be doing long polynomial division?

Also, do you mean the following by your posted expressions?

. . . . .(x^2 - 9) / (x + 3)

. . . . .(2x^2 + 5x - 3) / (2x - 1)

When you reply with confirmation or correction, please include a clear listing of how far you have gotten.

Thank you.

Eliz.

simplifying, sorry =]

And yes, the expressions you have are correct.

As for what I have done so far, nothing. I am at a dead end with not knowing where to start. I'm going to see how far I can get with trying to remember last year and I'll check back here in a little bit

what I did so far,

1. 2x^2-5x-3
2x-1

I divided the top and bottom by 2x so

x+5/2 -3/2x
-1

does this make any sense or am I way out there?

Are you not familiar with how to factor quadratics...?
