I am having trouble...please help. Thank you in advance.

Use the Distributive Property to illustrate why the traditional multiplication algorithm works. As an example, multiply 16 times 42.

1. State the Distributive Property.
2. Multiply 16 times 42 by the traditional algorithm.
3. Multiply 16 times 42 using the Distributive Property

Do you know what the Distributive Property is ?

When they say "traditional multiplication algorithm", they mean multiplying longhand with paper and pencil.

Can you multiply the following, using the Distributive Property?

(6 + 10)*(2 + 40)

Then, do it longhand (like below), and look for similarities.

Code:
   42
× 16
------
