Hello, Luckygal!
\(\displaystyle \text{Make a reduced table of conversions:}\)
\(\displaystyle \begin{array}{ccccccc}50\text{ bananas} &=& 20\text{ coconuts} & \Rightarrow & 5\text{ bananas} &=& 2\text{ coconuts} & [1]\\ 30\text{
coconuts} &=& 12\text{ fish} & \Rightarrow & 5\text{ coconuts} &=& 2\text{ fish} & [2] \\ 100\text{ fish} &=& 1\text{ hammick} & \Rightarrow & 100\text{ fish} &=& 1\text{ hammock} & [3] \end{array}\)
\(\displaystyle \begin{array}{ccccccc}\text{Multiply [2] by 50:} & 250\text{ coconuts} &=& 100\text{ fish} \\ \text{Multiply [1] by 125:} & 625\text{ bananas} &=& 250\text{ coconuts} \end{array}\)
\(\displaystyle \text{And we have: }\:\begin{Bmatrix}625\text{ bananas} &=& 250\text{ coconuts} \\ 250\text{ coconuts} &=& 100\text{ fish} \\ 100\text{ fish} &=& 1\text{ hammock} \end{Bmatrix}\)
\(\displaystyle \text{Hence: }\:625\text{ bananas} \;=\;250\text{ coconuts} \;=\;100\text{ fish} \;=\;1\text{ hammock}\)
. . \(\displaystyle \text{Therefore: }\:625\text{ bananas} \;=\;1\text{ hammock}\)
Am I the ONLY one who finds these responses virtually impossible to read? Maybe I am....no one else has complained.
The "overlong" lines of text will not display nicely for me at all. Does anyone have any suggestions?
