I need help with a math problem which consists of The Algebraic Properties of Set Operations. I have to prove the Properties of Complement Thereom 1: number 14 and 15. 14 Looks something like this....AUB=AnB.....its kinda hard to write but the underlines are supposed to be ontop of the letters. Number 15 looks like this....AnB=AU B....n again the undlines go above the letters. I have to prove that they equal each other. If you can help that would be great...A.S.A.Please!!!! Thanks so much!

What does the "overlining" (for lack of a better term) notation mean? (Different books use different notation -- I wish they'd standardize -- so you'll need to define this for us.)

Hello, JayDeT88!

Those are DeMorgan's Laws.

The overscores mean "complement of" . . . fairly common notation.
. ____ . . . _ . ._
(A U B) .= .A ∩ B
. ____ . . . _ . ._
(A ∩ B) .= .A U B

These are important properties; their proofs should be in your textbook.
You didn't mention what techniques you are allowed: algebraic proofs, Venn diagrams, etc.
