Differentiate (a[sup:34a4ir4u]2[/sup:34a4ir4u]+x[sup:34a4ir4u]2[/sup:34a4ir4u]){sqrt(a[sup:34a4ir4u]2[/sup:34a4ir4u]-x[sup:34a4ir4u]2[/sup:34a4ir4u])} with respect to x?

Can I simplify {sqrt(a[sup:34a4ir4u]2[/sup:34a4ir4u]-x[sup:34a4ir4u]2[/sup:34a4ir4u])} this instead of differentiating it? If no then I'm stuck with that part. I know how to differentiate both but then after that I'm stuck. Please help. Thanks!

You can write sqrt(a^2 - x^2) as (a^2 - x^2)^(1/2). Does that help you to differentiate sqrt(a2 - x^2) ?

After you determine the first derivative of each factor, use the product rule.

Please show whatever work that you can, if you would like more help.

Cheers 8-)
