i need to differentiate [12 – (q1 + q2)]xq1, i think the answer is (12-q2)/2. but how do u get here? does anyone have a good tutorial website or is able to explain this simply

Is that \(\displaystyle [12-(q_{1}+q_{2})]\cdot q_{1}\)?.

If so, do not use x for multiplication. Use * instead.

What are you differentiating with respect to?.

If we differentiate w.r.t q1, then we can expand:

\(\displaystyle 12q_{1}-q_{1}^{2}-q_{2}q_{1}\)

and differentiate term by term:

\(\displaystyle 12-2q_{1}-q_{2}\)

If it helps, put an x in place of what you are differentiating with respect to and make the other a number, say, 1.

Then, differentiate and resub when you're done.
