Differentiation Help y= x^2 / 3x - 1

What's your attempt? It's a division between two functions so is there a certain rule you can apply?

yes you have to apply the quotion rule. for instance the derivative of 2x/x is {( low*Dhigh - high*Dlow) / (low square)

that is one of the tricks to remembering the rule... so for your question you would do [(3x-1)(2x) - (x^2)(3)] / (3x-1)^2
to simplify this you can distribute and factor out to get [x(3x-2)] / (3x-1)^2

hope that helps.

. ohh ya and in the trick to remembering the rule be sure to know that the capital D means derivative so you have to write the bottom quantity first and multiply by the derivate of the top and then subtract all that by the product of the top quantity times the derivative of the bottom and then take your entire answer and divide it by the lower quantity squared...
