Hi guys. I came across this question in a textbook and I'm not sure how to approach it as it doesn't show a function, just a matrix of letters and numbers.

I guess I have to work out what function is being applied to a,b,c, and d before I can even find the inverse, but there is no clear pattern between them so I can't work out what function is used. How do you suggest I approach this?

from the first function table #15 ...
[MATH]f(a) = 4 \implies f^{-1}(4) = g(4) = a[/MATH]
