I have a a bunch of points I want fit to a function curve. It really doesn't matter what type of curve, but the resulting curve will not pass the vertical line test. I know how to fit a hermite curve, bezier and bspline etc.... But those type of curves are relatively new ( 100 years old or so) What did they use to fit odd function curves back in the dark ages? This is just of curiosity. I just want to learn some more traditional methods.

thanks

Although Wikipedia has a page on curve fitting, it doesn't go into any specifics regarding the history of the art. I'm honestly not sure how to go about researching this. Maybe someone a bit more familiar with it has some insights?
