… I'm not familiar with that word.
Neither was I. I've been seeing the adjective form in geopolitical discourse, over the past two months. They're using it as a buzzword. Buzzwords come and go.

For example, a few years ago, sportswriters and broadcasters started using the word 'differential' a lot (in place of 'difference'). This made some sense at first (eg: stats), but then everybody started using it, and the usage became a bit ridiculous (eg: "This team needed a major change to their uniforms, in additional to management; a minor differential in jerseys wouldn't make that kind of statement"). So far this year, I can't remember hearing or reading the word 'differential' in sports at all. I expect 'pugilistic' will fade away, as well. :cool:
