Why is 3 x 3 + 4 x 4= 5 x 5 :confused:. I thought it was 7 x 7.

You might be thinking that \(\displaystyle 3^2 + 4^2=(3+4)^2\) but this is NOT correct. Why? \(\displaystyle (a+b)^2=(a+b)(a+b) = a^2 +ab + ba+b^2 = a^2 +2ab+b^2 \neq a^2+b^2\)
