I already know how to convert from standard to slope-intercept form,but how do you do the opposite?:confused: For example:

Y= 1/2X+1 1/3

Can someone please explain each step taken to solve the problem, and then give me a problem to solve? (And tell me if I did it right!)

Thanks!

The LCD is 10. This LCD is correct.

Y=(-4/5X) +5

10Y= 8X+5

The result is not correct. Also, you did not copy the exercise correctly: Your first +5 above should be +1/2

You missed a sign, when multiplying (2)(-4).

Here is the correct result:

10Y = -8X + 5

PS: Why did you move symbol X inside the parentheses of (-4/5) ? That move accomplishes nothing other than to make your typing ambiguous. In other words, Denis typed the parentheses in (-4/5)X to clearly show that X is not in the denominator of the fraction. You should leave it that way. :cool:

You missed a sign, when multiplying (2)(-4).

You forgot to multiply 5 by 10, also.

Here is the correct result:

10Y = -8X + 50

Denis' original equation was y = (-4/5)x + 1/2, not y = (-4/5)x + 5.

So answer should be 10y = -8x + 5

e:

Y= 1/2X + 1 1/3 Do not write the coefficients and/or constants as mixed numbers.
And it helps to put parentheses around "1/2" (in this case) for clarification.

Y = (1/2)X + 4/3

6(Y) = 6[(1/2)X + (4/3)]

6Y = 3X + 8

AX + BY = C

1) The X-term and the Y-term must be on the left-hand side of the equation
with C on the right-hand side of the equation, 2) the X-term must be to the left <-----edit
of the Y-term, 3) A > 0 and, 4) if possible, A, B, and C are relatively prime integers. **

Continuing:

-3X + 6Y = 8

3X - 6Y = -8 . . . . . answer

Likewise, for y = (-4/5)x + 1/2, the answer in standard form is:

8x + 10y = 5

Oh my. OK, that is kind of confusing, LOL. I'll go and find some worksheets then and practice. Thank you all for helping me!
