I am trying to find the way to solve this problem, can you help?

Construction. A garden area is 30 ft long and 20 ft wide. A path of uniform width
is set around the edge. If the remaining garden area is 400 ft2, what is the width of
the path?

(30 + 2x)(20 + 2x) = 1000

solve for x

Your question is a bit unclear.

Is the path constructed INSIDE the boundaries of the 30 by 20 ft garden, or is it OUTSIDE?

If it is INSIDE, then the area of the garden is (20 - 2x)(30 - 2x)....if we let x = width of the path.

then

(20 - 2x)(30 - 2x) = 400
