I am trying to construct an isoceles right triangle from a line segment AB, which will be the hypotenuse. I am confused at to where to even start on this. Please help!!!

Re: Constructions-Urgent

Sorry I should have stated previously that this is only with a straightedge and a compass.

Re: Constructions-Urgent

start by constructing a perpendicular bisector of your segment AB.

call the midpoint of AB point M.

construct a circle with center point M of length AM.

you should now be able to see the three points that form the isosceles right triangle with hypotenuse AB.

Re: Constructions-Urgent

The third point is where the circle crosses the perpindicular bisector correct?

Re: Constructions-Urgent

That is where I have made it, and the two sides are equal where line segment AB is still the longest side.
