Sometime ago (before Cryptology started using number theory) - number theory was considered "Queen of Mathematics" - because it had no practical use. Now of course......What is the most fundamental connection between pure and applied mathematics? Which one do you prefer and why?
Yeah, you applied math people surely ruined a beautiful field (only joking!)Sometime ago (before Cryptology started using number theory) - number theory was considered "Queen of Mathematics" - because it had no practical use. Now of course......

What if the teacher is teaching pure math for a living?Teaching math for a living is considered applied math, right?
No I wouldn't say so. To me, applied mathematics is when mathematics is applied to other areas, eg physics, economics. Pure mathematics is maths for maths sake but having said that, applications are still found for it.Teaching math for a living is considered applied math, right?
