April baked some cookies. Sam took half of the cookies. Then Sue took half of the remaining cookies. Then Sue took half of the remaining cookies. LAter, Lisa took half of the cookies that were left. When April came home, she saw only 3 cookies. Tell how you could figure out how many cookies April baked altogehter. explain you're thinking using: words, numbers, and pictures.


A frog is in a well 12 feet deep. Each day he climbs up 3 feet, and each night he slips back 2 feet. How many days will it take the frog to get out of the well?
 
1) Lisa took half, leaving three. So how many where there before she took hers? This is how many were left after Sue took half. So how many where there before she took hers? And so forth.

2) Hint: On his last day, he goes up three AND OUT, because, once he's at the top, there's no reason to drop back again.
