composite functions

Can someone help me remember how to do composite functions (I think that is what they are called)? Like when f(x)=2x+1 and g(x)= 3x-5 and you have to find f[g(2)]. I get confused when trying to plug in the right thing. Please show steps. I have three different values to plug in. 2 is the first one.

I think I have it: please check
g(2) = 3(2)-5=1 so f(g(2)) =3?

g(2) = 3(2)-5=1 so f(g(2)) =3?
