Complete the table. Then graph the line for y = x - 4

Code:
 x | y
---|---
-2 |
 0 |
 1 |
 4 |
Can someone help me how to start this?

Just follow the instructions:

Take the given x-values from the given table, and plug them in for "x" in the given formula.

Simplify to find the corresponding y-values.

Write the y-values in the table opposite their x-values.

Draw the (x,y)-points.

Connect the dots into a line.

Eliz.

Code:
 x | y
---|---
-2 | 2
 0 | 4
 1 | 3
 4 | 0
Is this right?

How did you get those values? For instance, when x = 0, how did you get that y equalled 4, since y = x - 4 = 0 - 4 = -4?

(You also should have noticed a problem when you went to graph the line, and did NOT get a straight line of points.)

Thank you.

Eliz.

my teacher showed us 0|4 that and we only need two points to make a line

thank u for the help

Your instructor thinks that 0 - 4 is a positive number?!

Technically, yes; but plotting more points helps you see if (as is the case here) you have made errors. A responsible teacher would have stressed the "at least three points" rule.

You might want to consider having a serious talk with someone in your institution's administration, so that a competent instructor can be provided for your classroom.

Good luck!
