I need to create a formula to calculate a number equal to an overall exertion rate for an exercise session on a treadmill.

There are 4 input numbers:

Minutes exercised.
Miles ran.
Calories burned.
Level of intensity.

If:
Minutes = 50
Miles = 4
Calories =400
Level = 10

Then, what is the overall exertion rate based on the 4 input numbers?

Using the same formula, I then would be able to compare the overall exertion rate of one exercise session against another session that has different input numbers.

I may be e-mailed at invictus2@akapost.com

Thanks for your help.

That's a reasonable task. Let's see your personal efforts.

My Input Numbers

Hi, Not sure what you mean. If by "personal efforts" you mean my input numbers for the four parts in the formula I seek, they are:

There are 4 input numbers to create a formula to show overall exertion rate for one exercise session:

Minutes exercised.
Miles ran.
Calories burned.
Level of intensity.

My actual 4 input numbers are:

Minutes = 50
Miles = 4
Calories =400
Level = 10

Now I need a formula that, given these 4 input numbers, is a number that represents my overall exertion rate for this this one exercise session. I would use the same formula with different input numbers for exercise session No. 2. Then I could compare the exertion rate of session No. 1 with No. 2.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks.

Is this need arising out of a home-work assignment?

What do you think the formula should look like - a linear one, a polynomial, an exponential function?

What are your thoughts?

a number equal to an overall exertion rate for an exercise session

How do you quantify "exertion rate"? In other words, what will the units be for such a quantity?

Do you measure exertion rate as volume of sweat produced per hour, or body heat produced per second, or heart beats per minute? What is "exertion rate", exactly?

I'm wondering why calories-burned-per-exercise-session could not be used as a measure of exertion rate, for example.

Cheers :cool:

PS: Does the variable "intensity" denote the slope of the treadmill track? It can't represent speed (because the variables for time and distance fix the speed), so what is "intensity", exactly?
