x/2 - y /2 + z/2 these are all fractions

do you just combine all of there or something else?? thanks

If the problem were 3/5 + 4/5 + 2/5, because all the fractions have the same denominators they are "like" fractions. Hence, you combine the numerators and place the sum over the common denominator.

3/5 + 4/5 + 2/5 = \(\displaystyle \frac{3}{5}+\frac{4}{5}+\frac{2}{5}=\frac{3+4+2}{5}=\frac{9}{5}\)

Do the same with your problem. The only difference is that since we don't know the numerical values of x, y and z, you can only indicate the sum. In other words, your problem will have to halt with the next to last step.

this is basically adding and subtracting fractions, only with variables in the numerator. because the denominators are all the same, you can put the whole thing over the denominator. so you would get

x-y+z
