Okay, so i know that arcsine(root2/2) equals 45, but why does it not also 135 if it is within the limits of -1=<X=<1 and Y is positive in quadrant 2?

In order for a function to have an inverse function, it must be one-to one. The sine function is periodic, and so it is not one to one over its entire domain, and so we must restrict its domain such that it is one-to-one. By convention, this restricted domain is:
