Hello Everyone!

I have felt the need to further define what I am attempting to figure out for simplicity sake. In the example provided by my professor, he is able to "simplify" the following

0.30e-(1.9x10-4 x 10,560)

To make it equal

.040

The e in this stands for Exponent

I am just not understanding how he is making this work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

MY EDITS: Deleted my post because Denis figured it out. (I was thinking 3e4 means 3 x 10^4)

MY THIRD EDIT: I forgot to mention that I am very impressed with Denis.

Is that expression what YOU obtained...in order to simplify?
Makes no sense; can you post the original?

Why does it make no sense?
10-4 means what?
The "e" is the Euler number.
Use ^ to represent exponent; like 10^(-4).
Use * for multiplication

Using 2.718... for e (the Euler number), I can get .04 approximately:

.3 * 2.718^[-(1.9 * 10^(-4) * 10560)] = .04034157....

EDIT: you impressed, Mark?

YA? Bout time!!

I know, I know.

I've been trying to make amends. Did you notice the new cartoon that I added to the Barack Lightyear post ("Latest Buzz", I think, in Odds and Ends).

I was thinking of you.
