CLEP College Algebra Test

It has been a long time since I have taken algebra in high school. I was a good (not great) algebra student, but I feel as though I have forgotten everything I learned during my HS days. I have decided to go to college (as I have been working for some time now) to pursue a better career. I have the opportunity to take a CLEP test to skip college algebra. The minimum score needed to past is 50%. I would prefer to take this test instead of the class as it would save me a great deal of money and I would be able to take a class in its place. I have been studying (as I bought a study guide) but I'm disappointed that my study guide doesn't show the steps to get the answers. I am having some difficulty working through these problems. I hate to ask, but if there is anyone here who could explain the steps to just some of these problems, I would greatly appreciate it. I would ask someone I know, but I don't know any math teacher's or anyone else who could help me with this. This is really the only way I know to ask someone for help. I understand that most of you posters probably have better things to do, but if anyone could explain just a few of the steps to reach the solution to these problems, I would really appreciate it. I have always been a quick learner and things seem to come back to me quickly when I review old material. Thanks for any help!

I wasn't exactly sure how to attach the pdf, so I created a yahoo email account with a pdf file in the inbox. If you are willing to help me, please login to this yahoo mail account as I created it just for this pdf file. The title of the email is NM. I created this email account just for this pdf file, so I will post the yahoo mail username and password...

This test will cover 4 main topics...1. Algebraic equations 2. Equations and Inequalities 3. Functions 4. Number Systems and Operations
The Sample Questions begin on page 17, and the Answer key is on page 29.

Thanks again for any help.

We can help - we only help after you have shown your work - or ask a specific question (not a statement like "Don't know any of these")

Please post "one problem" in one thread along with your work on that problem. We can start from there....

Please share your work with us indicating exactly where you are stuck - so that we may know where to begin to help you.

I feel as though I have forgotten everything I learned [about algebra] during my HS days.

I have the opportunity to take a CLEP test to skip college algebra.

I would prefer to take this test instead of [re-learning the algebra that I have forgotten] as it would save me a great deal of money and I would be able to take a class in its place.

If you take a remedial algebra course in college, that course is not college algebra. It's high-school algebra taught at a college for people who need to rebuild their math foundation before enrolling in college-level math courses.

The purpose of a placement test is to place you in the correct class.

Did some academic adviser suggest that you could save money by circumventing the purpose of the placement test, or is this your idea? What class are you hoping to take in place of the class that you should be in?

Your plan to save money will fail, if you pay for a course for which you are ill-prepared -- a course which you need to drop after the refund deadline, in order to enroll in the course that you would have taken had you simply followed the school's intent in the first place.

I'm not going to log-in to some e-mail account, to view a PDF file of a practice placement test.

Does this file contain so many exercises that you're unwilling to simply follow our posting guidelines (i.e., type each exercise word-for-word in its own thread)?

Are any of these course on-line courses? I fear that there is a terrible realization lurking out there in your future, somewhere. :(
