To learn the reasoning and method for setting up and solving this sort of exercise, try some online lessons.

Let X be the amount of 87% gasoline and Y be the amount of 93% gasoline, both in gallons. Then X+Y= 6.
The amount of actual gasoline in the 87% gasoline is .87X and the amount of actual gasoline in the 93% gasoline is .93Y. The amount of gasoline in 6 gallons of 93% gasoline is .93(6)= 5.58 gallons. So we also have .87X+ .93Y= 5.58.

Solve X+ Y= 6, .87X+ .93Y= 5.58 for Y.
