Hi, i hope everyone is doing well. I have taken your advice and I am studying Algebra 1 and basic geometry in my spare time. I don't have much time but I am giving Mr Jomo's calls on YouTube all my free time. It is very good!. I will come here mainly for word problems.
I qm coming just to ask you to confirm if this analysis is good.

HERE'S THE PROBLEM.

'A married couple who shares a family plan for their cellphones have their base telephone rate at 82 dollars per month. this month each member pays half of the bill plus his/her data usage. the total bill for this month was 125 dollars. what was the payment per person, if 60% of data usage was his?.
what i have done:
data given
base cellphone rate= $ 82 each month
each one pays half of the bill + his/her own data usage.
bill total for tHe current month= $ 125
how much each paid tis month, if he used up 60 % of the total data usage.
SOLUTION

FAMILY BILL PORTION DATA USAGE
Husband $ 41 60%= 0.6
Wife $ 41 40%=0.4

the total bill for this month was 125 dollars.
So, if each one pays half of the bill each one of them had to fork out 62.5 each + data usage
he paid 0.6 more for his data usage = 62.5 + 0.6 =63.1
she paid then 0.4 ( 40%) more for data usage= 62.5 + 0.4 = 62.9

He paid $ 63. 1
she paid $ 62.9

Do you think this is correct?.
Thank you so much for your help.

This is almost certainly wrong. I am pretty sure you miscopied the problem. Each spouse is to pay half the telephone portion of the bill and and for his or her data usage.

Please give the EXACT AND COMPLETE wording of the problem.

The first step in solving a problem is to make sure you understand it fully, not to write down a lot of data.

thanks, Mr J here is the exact wording.
A married couple who shares a family plan for their cellphones have their base telephone rate as 82.00 dollars per month. Each member pays half of the bill plus his/her data usage. the total bill for this month was 125.00 dollars. what was the payment per person, if 60% of data usage was his?.
this is the problem. no more no less.

Do you think this is correct?....... NO ... those two payments ($ 63. 1+ $ 62.9) do not add up to $ 125
Thank you so much for your help.

If I were to do this problem (taking some liberty with language):

Data charge = 125-82 = 43

Husbands data charge = 43 * 0.6 = 25.80

Wife's data charge = 43 * 0.4 = 17.20

Husband's share of monthly bill = 25.80 + 41 = $ 66.80

Wife's share of monthly bill = 17.20 + 41 = $ 58.20

total paid = 66.80 + 58.20 = $ 125 (checks)

The problem makes no sense. Each is to pay half the bill (which pays the bill in full) plus the data usage, That means they pay more than the bill.

Thanks a lot Mr Khan!. I see why now.
Thanks to you Mr Jeff too.

Just one thing if you don't mind, Mr Khan:
Data charge = 125-82 = 43
what does the 43 represent here?.
I am not clear here.
maybe his total share of the 125 bill?. without the data usage?. i am not clear.

The total charge consists of 2 parts: the flat fee they split 50/50 and the data charge. If the flat fee was 82, what was the data charge?

Got it. 43
82 flat fee + 43 = 125 total bill.
Thanks, Mr lev. glad to hear from you too.
