I cannot figure out how to solve for x. I have search deep into the internet and couldn't find any examples with variables both in the main part of the equation and the exponent. Please solve! Thanks in advanced!

What is the value of:

ln(975(0.93)) = ?

Also notice:

ln(-7x+350) = ln(7) + ln(50 - x)

Right, whoops. I still don't know the next step. Help please!

6.81x = ln(-7x+350)

I can't figure out how to solve for x...

I've gotten as far as this...
975(0.93)^x = -7x+350
x(ln(975(0.93))) = ln(7) + ln(x-50)
6.81x = 1.95 + ln(x-50)
If you were to graph this, the solutions would be about x=22.2 and x=44.5

Maybe a simpler way to think about it is with this example. If you show me how to solve it then I can probably solve this one above...
0.50^x = -0.3x+1.5 with solutions x=4.89 and x=-0.80

Thanks for the help!

6.81x = 1.95 + ln(x-50)

That equation has no Real solution.

975(0.93)^x = -7x+350

x(ln(975(0.93))) = ln(7) + ln(x-50)
You ought to have included this original equation in your first post! Please read the forum guidelines, before posting again. Thank you.

The expression in red is not correct because only 0.93 is being raised to the power of x.

The expression in blue ought to be 50-x.

There is no algebraic method, to solve this type of equation (i.e., a transcendental function set equal to an algebraic function). Use an iterative process, like Newton's Method, or computer software.
