Question: Select the correct statement about this table (see attached image).

  • The events A1, A2,... Am are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive events.
  • The events A1, A2,... Am are mutually exclusive but not collectively exhaustive events.
  • The events B1, B2,... Bk are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive events.
  • The events B1, B2,... Bk are neither mutually exclusive nor collectively exhaustive events.

You probably have some specific questions about this; I do! Please ask them, so we can discuss whether the problem makes sense, and what it might be intended to be about.

I myself would tend to expect that two of the four statements as you have them are true; but nothing is actually said about any of them such that I could prove my answer. Has the book told you what to assume about such a table? Or have you perhaps not shown the entire actual problem as given?
 
Can we please see the complete problem?
Do you know the definition of mutually exclusive? How about collectively exhaustive events?
