question says find the equation of the line connecting (-3,7) and (2,8)

and the answer was ==>y = (1/5)x + 38/5

So how this answer was found is by

multiplying 8=1/5 (2) === the 1 and 2 were multiply to get 2/5 and then the 8 and 5 to get 40 then the 2 was subtracted from the 40 to get 38/5

i really don't get why it is the way it is...but i just want to make sure that i can do the same thing if i get a fraction as the slope...

so if i should get a slope as 4/5 and a point of (1,5)
it would be===> 5=4/5(1)+b ===> will i do the same thing?? so im thinking that the answer i will get is ==> 21/5?? if i did the same thing that was done in the other question?

Slope = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) = ( 8 - 7 )/(2 + 3) = 1/5

Now choose any pt (-3,7) or (2,8)

y - y2 = a(x - x2)

y - 8 = 1/5( x - 2 )

Candy, the equation was 8 = (1/5)2 + b : b is the y-intercept
(1/5)2 = 2/5 ; so: b = 8 - 2/5 ; b = 40/5 - 2/5 ; b = 38/5

You don't seem to understand what's going on: suggest you have a talk with your teacher.
