Hey there,

Can someone please explain to me how you solve 29x + 33y = 2490

I have tried so many times that I have just given up on it, and need someone just to show me how its done, so I can get the rest of the smilar problems i have like this solved.

Any help would be gratly appreciated!!

Manga

29x + 33y = 2490

If you are to solve for y, then:

Subtract 29x, from both sides.

33y = 2490 - 29x

Then divide both sides by 33.

y = (2490- 29x)/33

Simplify

y = (830/11) - (29/33)x

The answer is supposed to be x = 54 and y = 28, but I just cant get this. I was told by someone that you had to use k and t to form whole intergers as part of the equation, but dont understand how...... any thoughts?

Solve: 29x + 33y = 2490

Is not enough information to arrive at the solution

x = 54 and y = 28

This defines one point on the line.

You need more information.

Perhaps another equation was given.

Did you post the whole question?

This was the whoe question, all i know is that it has something to do with the extension of Euclid's algorithm and the use of k and t for whole intergers.

Hello, manga!

A little explanation would have saved a lot of time and effort . . .

Can someone please explain to me how you solve 29x + 33y = 2490
I assume you are solving Diophantine equations,
. . where the solutions are to be positive integers.

It also would help if you explain what techniques you are allowed to use.

I used Modulo Arithmetic and found: .x = 21, y = 57.

I see nothing preventing these:

-111,173
-78,144
-45,115
-12,86
87,-1
120,-30
153,-59
186,-88
...and quite a few more (above are in range -200 to 200).
