Can someone please explain this step by step? (x^3+7x+2)/(x+1)

Google "long division of polynomials". There are a lot of good you-tube videos on this topic.
 
Also, it is less helpful that that dividend is not written out as \(\displaystyle \ x^3 \ + \ 0x^2 \ + \ 7x \ + \ 2 \ \ \) so there
would be a zero term for a place holder to work with.
