if the length of the diagonal of the rectangle shown is 4cm and the area of the rectangle is 7.68 cm squared, find the dimensions of the rectangle. The answers are 3.2 cm x 2.4 cm.

I think sqrt(x) on the diagram should be ignored.
Also, there is a problem in the area of the triangle formula you are using. It needs height and base and you are plugging in the diagonal.
I would try this approach. Let's make the sides a and b. Can you make 2 equations using these variables? Hint: one involves the area of the rectangle and the other uses the famous right triangle theorem. Then solve the system.

I have a x b = 7.68 and a squared + b squared = 4 squared. I don’t know where to go from there
You are not familiar with systems of equations?
To solve it use the first equation to express a through b, then substitute the expression into the second.
