Can anyone please help me with this equation?

I think I need the LHS (left hand side) add up to 3 after solving this equation and I can't do it.

The equation is (x is a variable) 2x/3 -5 = 3

I tried multiplying both sides by the 3 to give 6x -15 = 9

Then adding 15 to both sides to remove the constant to give 6x = 24

Then I divided both sides by the coefficient of x (6) to give x = 4 (which is wrong)

I think x needs to work out as 12 for the equation to equal 3

Ahhh, I think I have done it now I worked out what x should be.

Maybe I shouldn't have multiplied the numerator of the fraction when I tried to clear it, as if I don't and have 2x instead of 6x then x does work out as 12 :)

Is that right?

Thank you! :D

Phew, assignment done now! That was my last question and was having a mental block. It needs to be sent in, in the morning, so I was stressing!
