Use product rule and chain rule:

if

f(x) = g(x) * h(x)

then

f'(x) = g'(x) * h(x) + g(x) * h(x)

f(x)=\(\displaystyle > >\)(2x^1/2+1)^5(x^3+2x+1)^4 \(\displaystyle < <\)differentiate the following...

gucci1,

you must have grouping symbols around the first exponent (reading from from right to left). It is a fraction.

What you have is equivalent to \(\displaystyle \bigg(\frac{2x^1}{2} + 1\bigg)^5(x^3 + 2x + 1)^4.\)

Suggestion:

Type [2x^(1/2) + 1]^5(x^3 + 2x + 1)^4

or possibly

{[2x^(1/2) + 1]^5}(x^3 + 2x + 1)^4.

Or, use Latex:

\(\displaystyle (2x^{\frac{1}{2}} + 1)^5(x^3 + 2x + 1)^4\)

or possibly

\(\displaystyle (2x^{1/2} + 1)^5(x^3 + 2x + 1)^4\)
