Re: Calculus qeustion

You MUST be joking.

This is a fundamental algebra question requiring one substitution and just the slightest amount of algebraic manipulation.

If you honestly cannot do it, please go have a heart-to-heart chat with your academic advisor. You a WAY over your head in calculus.

That's not how it works at this site, Dante.

If a = -1/3, then the given denominator is -1/3 + 1.

Can you add these two numbers? Please tell us where you're stuck or what it is that you don't understand in this exercise.

Okay I have not practised calculus for a few years and I am back at uni now so I fly through new things but get stuck on stupid little things and sometimes I am unsure if I am correct and would just prefer to get it double checked by another person.

In this question I am simply not 100% sure that I have managed the rearranging properly.
obviously the denominator is 2/3 but is it necessary to move the denominator up?

The part where I get lost is moving a denominator (fraction) and the trick to swap it if the numerator is 1. What is the rule behind this? How does it work that if I bring the 2/3 up it flips onto 3/2? Sorry for the stupid question but I would rather sound stupid and work it out then not know.

Thanks.

Here's the facts.

1) I never troll, in any sense of the word.
2) I always try to tell each and every poster exactly what is needed, using my professional judgment.
3) You are not ready for calculus. I seriously doubt you ever have seen it. Please back up and take Algebra I.
