Hi.

If my mobile provider was charging $1.6 per minute and my call lasted 25 minuted and 45 seconds, what would the total cost be and how is it worked out?

Thanks.

If you'd talked one minute, how much would it cost?

If you'd talked two minutes, how much would it cost? What mathematical operation did you use to obtain that value?

If you'd talked three minutes, how much would it cost? What mathematical operation did you use to obtain that value?

If you'd talked five minutes, how much would it cost? What mathematical operation did you use to obtain that value?

If you'd talked twelve minutes, how much would it cost? What mathematical operation did you use to obtain that value?

So, if you'd talked twenty-five minutes, how much would that cost?

As for the forty-five seconds, you'll need to provide the rest of the exercise for us to be able to advise regarding that. In particular, we'll need the portion (possibly in the instructions) which specified how fractions of minutes are counted. Is any second into the next minute counted as a full minute? Or are things rounded upward to the nearest half-minute? to the nearest ten seconds? Or something else?

When you reply, please include a clear listing of your thoughts and efforts so far. Thank you! ;)

Thanks for the replies.

It is relating to Skype calls and I believe the cost would be calculated to the second.

Then apply your beliefs to the model. (Note: In "real life", Skype costs vary according to the destination, with time being rounded not in accordance with your beliefs.)

Since you have not provided the exact instructions (being the pretend Skype "contract" for this homework exercise), we cannot comment on whether your eventual answer is "correct" or not. ;)

Hi.

I am not a student and this is not homework. I am just looking for someone who could provide me with the method of calculating the total cost of Skype calls without referring to Skype accounts.

Thanks.

Mathematics follows rules. In order to determine "the method of calculating the total cost of Skype calls", even were there one fixed method (which, it has been demonstrated, there is not), one simply must start with the rules of those accounts. If you are attempting to backwards-engineer the various fees, rates, costs, etc, you'll need to collect reams of data, including many different types of calls between different combinations of regions, with both pay-as-you-got and prepaid calls. There will not be one simple formula, whereby one plugs in "seconds" (even if Skype rounded to the nearest second, which, as demonstrated, they don't) and gets out "cost".

Ah. Well, this is a forum where volunteers surf by, as they're able, in order to help students with their homework. We don't do tech support, dispute resolution, etc. Apologies for the confusion. ;)

so 25 x 1.6= $40 but we didn't include the seconds which 3/4 of 1.6 so you have to pay $41.2
