calculating the number of planes in a figure

I am trying to figure out how to calculate the number of (planes) in the Big Dipper constellation of (7) stars/points? thank you. :)

You need minimum three points to make plane - so many 3 points can you choose?
 
Thank You. How do I calculate the number of "possible planes" (total), given that it takes (3) points to make a plane and there are (7) different points to create one from?

Have you done permutation/combination?
 
? the order doesn't matter though, I just need to figure out how many times (3) different stars can connect to make a plane from the total of (7) stars. thank you again for yor help--I'm not very good at this
 
You did not answer my question - Have done permutation/combination problems?

If yes - then consult your textbook for worked out examples - do a google search -

and then

show us your work - indicating exactly where you are stuck.

If no - this will be a hard problem to do.
 
no, I have not. thank you for your help. I will get help tomorrow, not sure how to set this up.
