Hello ... I’m trying to find the square miles of a County based on the below information.

The County stretches 45 miles to the north, 15 miles to the west, 28 miles to the east, and 37 miles to the south of Newton.

Based on my calculation ...it would be 3,526 ((45+37)*(15+28)). Is this right? It seems a bit high.

Thanks in advance!!

San Bernardino county is ~20000 sq.miles.

What shape is it? You could be right if it's a rectangle with horizontal and vertical sides, but it could be half that if it's more diamond shaped.

Here is the picture. It’s @ horizontal shape.

Should Newton be considered a point?

I presumed it to be of following shape
You're not the OP; do you have any information other than what was given?

And if you were right, what you did would not be accurate (though for some shapes that approach can give a reasonable approximation).

More important, your image doesn't fit the description:
The County stretches 45 miles to the north, 15 miles to the west, 28 miles to the east, and 37 miles to the south of Newton.
All these measurements start at Newton; they are not "45 miles on the north" but 45 miles to the north of Newton, and so on.

Actually after review, based on the picture, it looks more triangle and diamond with Jasper as the point.
Huh?

I see no Newton and no county boundaries. Is this whole thing a joke?

But in any case, if the county is not a rectangle, then there's no way to answer the question!

No, it’s not a joke. That’s how it was written. The boundaries are mountains. And, I’ve determined the answer. Thank you!
