As suggested above you need to find an expression for the mean. Basically, do whatever you would do to find the average or "mean" with those numbers (including Y) then just pick Y so that the mean is equal to 7.5.
Hint: set the mean equal to 7.5
Since this has been here for several days,
\(\displaystyle \frac{7+ 8+ 8+ Y+ 6+ 9+ 10+ 5}{8}= 7.5\)
\(\displaystyle \frac{53+ Y}{8}= 7.5\)
\(\displaystyle 53+ Y= 8(7.5)= 60\)
\(\displaystyle Y= 60- 53= 7\).
