Hi, my question is

2/3 + 1/4 T=1/3

With this problem aren't you finding the GCF which would be 12?

I worked the problem and my answer was T=1

(12) 2/3 + (12) 1/4 T=1/3

8+3T=4
-8 -8

3T = -4
3 3

T=1

The answer in the book was 4/3 does this mean that when you start off with a problem with fractions- the final answer is a fraction?

I got -4/3.
You subtract 2/3 from both sides which gives you 1/4t = -1/3 then multiply both sides by 4 which gives you t = -4/3.

Also 4 divided by 3 doesn't equal 1. I'm not quite sure where you got that number from. But you could also do it the way you did by multiplying by 12 first. That is acceptable.
